Hip Osteotomy

The head of the femur is completely covered by the pelvic socket (acetabulum) in a normal hip joint. There is insufficient or incomplete covering if the socket (acetabulum) is shallow. If the socket does not entirely cover the head of the femur, the balance of the stress on the hip joint is disrupted, and the load distribution is concentrated in a restricted area, leading to arthritis (arthrosis) in that area.
