Frozen shoulder (adhesive capsulitis) is characterized by a constriction of the shoulder capsule (a sheath of ligaments that surrounds the shoulder joint) and restriction of shoulder motion.
Characterized by severe pain, frozen shoulder syndrome can be caused by diseases such as bursitis and arthrosis.
Prolonged immobilization of the shoulder joint can lead to damage to the soft tissues and pulling of the joint capsule.
Having diabetes makes a person an easy target for this syndrome.
Keeping the shoulder immobilized for a long time as a result of trauma such as bumps and falls can trigger this disease.
Shoulder calcification is also among the causes of frozen shoulder syndrome.
Symptoms of frozen shoulder syndrome;
Pain that does not go away even when resting,
Severe pain that makes it difficult to fall asleep at night,
Shoulder movements become restricted, unable to lift or rotate the arm beyond a certain point,
Restriction of simple daily movements
It is possible to get rid of it with treatment!
In the treatment of frozen shoulder, medication and physical therapy are preferred. First, oral medication is applied to control pain and inflammation in the shoulder. In some cases, injections can be made into the joint.
In addition to drug treatment, physical therapy applications are performed for pain and restriction of movement. In cases where there is no response to these treatments, the joint capsule is loosened by closed surgery (arthroscopy). Physical therapy also plays an important role in frozen shoulder syndrome after surgical intervention.
